Old Metairie plunge pool and spa

Here is another project finished in 2016.  It was a very tight yard and a professional landscape architect drew the pool and outdoor kitchen layout.  The pool had to be dug with a small backhoe and we had to wheelbarrow the dirt to dumpsters at the street.  This plunge pool took 3 days to dig and 6 18 yard dumpster loads of dirt.  The pool has a natural gray stucco wall with 5 spitters and real copper pipe through the wall.  This pool tile was a ceramic 1″x1″ mosaic tile that I thought was beautiful.  The hot tub was raised and the tile and overflow was over the whole facial of the same mosaic tile.  The coping was a 2″ flamed edge gauge Pennsylvania flagstone and the deck was a multi colored Pennsylvania flagstone deck.  This plunge pool consisted of an auto fill line and had an overflow line so if it rains hard the water will automatically go out.  The pool and outdoor kitchen came out great and filled up this small backyard.

Here is a pool we completed in 2016.  It was a pool/spa combo to a brand new home.  The pool features ivory travertine paver decking, a raised brick spa, a rectangular design, suntan ledge, smartphone wifi computer system, colored LED lighting, salt water and a variable speed pump.  The hot tub we did a sack finish on it to tie the spa into the home porch.  Here are some photos:

Here we have a very large pool 70′ long.  It has old Kool Deck, rough plaster, old tile and non-working lights.  The owner decided he wanted the pool to look brand new so we installed new coping, new deck (over 2,700 ft.2!), new lights, new tile and we added a spa to the pool.  We went with a gray plaster for the pool and for the deck we did a gold travertine coping with an Autumn Leaves french pattern deck.  We also built a custom 8″ travertine drain.   We installed a new 6″ ceramic tile and we added the hot tub.  For the hot tub we had to demo concrete decking, dig it , tie it sructurally to the existing pool beam, gunite it, tile, plaster and put gold split faced travertine for the outside facial.  He had existing rock work/rock waterfall there so I used a few loose stones from the waterfall to put on top of the overflow for the hot tub.  Here are a few photos showing the process:

Here is a pool finished November 2016 in uptown New Orleans.  Here we created a 51′ long lap pool with gray plaster.  The pool has a long bench and large set of steps.  The pool also has 6 deck jets coming out of the landscape on the backside.  We installed 2″ flamed edge Pennsylvania gauged flagstone for the coping.  The deck is brick and a flagstone outside border.  The pool tile we did a 6″X12″ slate.  Also, the pool has 4 colored LED lights.  Lastly it is a salt water pool and has a heat/cool heat pump.  The landscaper installed savannah hollies, japanese boxwoods and camellias.  The pool looks like it has been there for a long time due to the size landscape and the materials that were chosen for this project.  Here are a few photos:

Here is a classic contemporary swimming pool and spa in Old Metairie completed in 2015.  It features a very large pool and deck that has all kinds of water features on.  First the pool consist of a suntan ledge with 3 bubblers and umbrella hole.  Next water feature is 3 deck jets on either side of the pool, or 6 in total.  On the back side there is a shallow shelf with 2 LED colored bubblers on either side.  The bench on the back side is very large and is angles so that the owners can lounge back comfortably on the back of the bench.  In that area, under the coping there is a 8′ arching rain waterfall that shoots up and out.  All the water features are on its separate variable speed pump.  The pool has a simple square spa.  The pool and hot tub are both plastered white and the glass tile around the perimeter is white glass tile.  The spa overflow is just a bit higher than the pool so it looks seamless.  The decking is a special Turkish limestone set on a diamond pattern and the outside perimeter and inside has 12″X12″ decorative expansion joints.  This pool has colored LED lighting and also a smartphone wifi computer system and a heat/cool heat pump.  This pool is a real simple classic that has great and fun touches.  Here are a few photos.

Here is a job completed in 2014.  It was a very large pool built very poorly.  The saying you get what you pay for is a huge understatement for this backyard.  Things wrong with the pool and yard are the pool only had one skimmer on this large pool.  The top step was the smallest step ever and you had to turn your foot sideways to try to get into the pool.  The pool had no bench seating, undersized plumbing pipes and leaking pool returns.  The worst part is there was a small strip of plastic drain by the owners porch that connected to the pool deck.  That drain just went into the dirt so the water could not go anywhere.

Challenge of the renovation:

First the front ditch was only about 8″ lower than the rear yard and the run was 200′.  We determined to run 6″ drainage to the ditch.  Also, the owners front yard was always mushy when he cut grass even with no rain for a long time.  We ran a separate 4″ drain line to get the water to the ditch in his front yard.  The 6″ line that went to the rear, we would create a custom 8″ wide travertine drain that would tie into the 6″.  We also put a couple of 9″ deck boxes in the yard.  The next issue was the leaking pipes and the only one old skimmer.  So we jack hammered the old one out and jack hammered the pool beam and put a second skimmer so that both would be brand new with no issues.  We also jack hammered new holes in for new and more pool returns.  I then re-plumbed the pool with new filter and a heat/cool heat pump.  We also busted in a Polaris pool cleaner line and placed a booster pump to make it easier on the owner.  Next we built a new set of steps and a large bench going across the width of the pool.  In order to put in new skimmers and returns we had to demo the old concrete deck.  So we had to bring in limestone and compact a new bed.  The coping we put on 12″X24″ tumbled travertine and we installed a new ceramic pool tile.  For the deck we did a french pattern travertine on the limestone bed and did the same on the large porch area and in the middle is where we put the new custom drain.  Lastly, we plastered the pool with a white plaster and installed a colored LED pool light.  Check out the old photos, especially his old porch that always held water even after no rain for over a month.  It was sad but he kept rubber boots by his back door to get to the pool or rear yard.  This was an unbelievable transformation.  You be the judge!

Here is a custom pool we completed in March of 2015 in Madisonville.  It was designed by an architect.  It is a large but beautiful design that in tied into their huge pool house with outdoor kitchen and fireplace.  The pool deck is a french pattern noche travertine.  The pool has an organic tahoe blue plaster color and on the tanning ledge there is a light beige plaster with aqua bead crete and 2 bubblers.  The pool has two large LED colored lights and the spa has one colored LED light.  We did a custom travertine drain that is 8″ wide so that there would be no small plastic drain on this deck.  Also, we cement 2’X2′ travertine stones and theres grass between the joints.  Overhead there is now string lighting over the large area.  The hot tub has a large split face travertine and the overflow to the pool goes over the whole facial.  The spa tile is a glass tile and the pool tile is a ceramic tile.  Check out this beauty!!

Here is a pool completed in November of 2016.  It is a courtyard type of swimming pool that features a raised brick wall with a 4′ sheer decent waterfall.  The decking is brick set in different patterns and has decorative silver travertine expansion joints and coping.  The pool is a gray plaster and has a decorative travertine bridge to bring the owner on the other side of the pool deck.  The pool also has colored LED pool lighting.  We ran 6″ and 4″ drainage to handle all the water due to the large stucco fence set on a chain wall.  Here are a few photos!
